Mrs. Jarra Green-Calderon, APRN, MSN, FNP-C, BC-ADM

Practicing at Central Texas Diabetes & Wellness Institute, Mrs. Jarra Green-Calderon is a devoted and compassionate Family Nurse Practitioner, Board Certified in Advanced Diabetes Management. Along with conducting different consultations, she treats a host of conditions, such as diabetes and its comorbidities, weight management, and IV nutrition therapy. 

Mrs. Green-Calderon attended the University of Texas Health Science Center Houston for her undergraduate nursing degree, and the University of Texas at Arlington for her Master’s of Science in Nursing. She is board certified as a family Nurse Practitioner and in advanced diabetes management. She believes in using her skills and abilities in helping patients better their lives, to the best of her abilities. Patients find her warm and friendly, often opening up and providing her with all the essential information needed for her to tailor treatment plans.

The staff is bilingual and Mrs. Green-Calderon spent time in Guatemala immersing herself both in the culture and the language while volunteering in the medical field.  This immersion helps her cater to communities with different cultural backgrounds. Due to her depth of knowledge in the field, she has been invited as a guest speaker by the University of Texas Health Science Center Houston and Frontier Nursing University. She has attended and presented at conferences held by the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nursing, and the American Association of Diabetes Educators. Her incredibly strong personality and aura help her achieve long-lasting relationships with her patients.

Meet Sasha

Sasha is a 3 year old German Shepard. She was born on September 10, 2020. She was part of a litter of 7. She has undergone obedience training from the age of 8-weeks old. Sasha has become a Diabetic-Alert Dog. As a Diabetic-Alert Dog, Sasha is trained to detect hypoglycemia and alert to it. After detecting hypoglycemia, Sasha is being trained to retrieve sugar snacks from a basket to take to the person.

After training daily, Sasha is rewarded with a trip to the dog park and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. She also enjoys running in the backyard and almost catching squirrels. She loves to bark in the backyard, but once her service vest is on, she knows its time to be quiet and work.

Her nickname is Sasha-Bear and she loves bones.

Meet Bruno

Bruno just turned 2 years old. He is part of Sasha’s first litter. He captured our eyes with his kind eyes. He is the true definition of a gentle giant. He is long haired, which means when it rains, the floors are always a mess. He is in obedience training also, and has shown the capacity to be a Diabetic-Alert dog as well as an Emotional Support dog.

 

Bruno’s nickname is Bruno-Bearinski or Brunito. He loves ice cream and Mexican food.

 

Meet Laika

Laika is the youngest of the doggies. She is 9 months old. She is in obedience training at this time. Laika will also be working at the clinic eventually once her diabetic scent training begins. Laika has a very calm temperament and is an ideal service dog.

Laika enjoys playing around with her siblings, bones and toys.

Laikas nickname is Small-Fry.
